Type any enthusiast car. We show you every recent auction result and every dealer listing for it, side by side, so you know the real price before you buy or sell.
An honest price, with the receipts
Pick a car and you see three numbers that matter: what it has been selling for, what dealers are asking, and how far apart those two are. Every dot is a real car with a date.
- Sold prices, not wish prices. Auction results are the backbone. Dealer asks are shown separately, never mixed in.
- Same car, one record. A car that shows up at two dealers and an auction is one line of history, not three sales.
- Fees stripped out. Some auction houses quote with a 10-12% buyer's fee included; we convert everything to the price the seller actually got.

How it works
Generation, body and gearbox are kept apart, so a manual GT3 Touring is never averaged with an automatic one. A car we haven't seen yet loads in about a minute.
Auction results and dealer listings across the major venues. The same car is matched by its VIN, so it is one record with a history, not a duplicate on every site.
Buyer's fees are removed where a venue includes them, foreign currency is converted at the sale-date rate, and bids that didn't meet reserve are shown hollow: real interest, not a sale.
We show which site a car is listed on. We don't sell cars, take listings, or rank anyone for money. Something wrong? Tell us. Full methodology.
What counts as a sale
- A sale is a completed public auction with a final price. That is the number behind every "median sold" on this site.
- A bid that did not meet reserve is not a sale. It is shown on the chart as a hollow dot (real interest, no deal) and never enters a median.
- A dealer price is an ask, not a sale. When a dealer marks a car sold, we record it at the last asking price and label it that way. It never enters a sold median.
- A car moving from one dealer to another is a transfer, not a sale.
One car, one record
Every listing and result is matched to its car by VIN. The same car listed on three sites is one car with a history, and an auction that several sites repeat counts once. Each VIN has its own page with every time it came to market.
Comparable prices
- Hammer-equivalent. Some auction houses quote the price including their buyer's premium. We back out that house's standard premium (10–16%, 11% where unknown) so every sale reads as the hammer price.
- US dollars at the sale-date rate. Foreign sales are converted at the European Central Bank reference rate for the day of the sale (the last published rate before a weekend or holiday). The UAE dirham, which the ECB does not publish, is pegged to the dollar at 3.6725; Rates By Exchange Rate API.
The right car in the right market
- Markets are split by generation and body, and by gearbox where the market trades that way: a manual GT3 Touring is not averaged with a PDK one.
- A result is filed in a market only if its model year and title fit that market. Rows that stop fitting are moved to the right market or removed, never averaged in.
- Special trims inside a market (a Weissach package, a Competition) are tagged so you can see them, not quietly blended.
The numbers on each page
- Median sold (12 months): the middle hammer-equivalent price of the last 12 months of sales, with the number of sales and the low–high range.
- 12-month change: the median of the last four quarters against the four before, shown only when each side has at least three sales.
- Trend chart: quarterly medians. A quarter with no sales is a gap, never filled in; a quarter with one or two sales is drawn hollow.
- Sell-through: sold ÷ (sold + reserve not met), last 12 months.
- Median ask: the middle asking price of cars for sale right now.
- Estimates are labeled. Where a car's sale price isn't public, we show the SoldFor Estimate, always marked with a ~.
The SoldFor Estimate
The SoldFor Estimate is what a car most likely sells for, as opposed to what the dealer is asking. It values every car for sale and every car that left a dealer without a public price. We use the first method below that has enough data, and each estimate says which one it used.
- Matching sales. The median of at least three auction sales in the same market over the last 18 months: same body, same trim (a GT2 RS is never valued by GT3s), within one model year, widened to two if needed. Prices are hammer-equivalent.
- The ask, adjusted. Without enough matching sales: the car's ask times the model's usual ask-to-sale ratio, taken from cars where we know both, held between 60% and 105% of the ask.
- The ask less 8%. When the model has no usable sales at all.
- No ask published. The model's 18-month median sale; if the model has never sold publicly, similar cars' asks less 8%.
The car's own ask bounds an estimate from sales to 60%–115% of that ask: a large gap means the matching sales were a different spec, not that the car is mispriced by half. When a car that left a dealer later sells at auction within 90 days, the real hammer price replaces the estimate.
Coverage and freshness
Every market is refreshed daily. Auction results come from Bring a Trailer, Cars & Bids, RM Sotheby's, Mecum, Collecting Cars, Broad Arrow, Barrett-Jackson, Bonhams, Gooding, PCARMARKET, Hagerty, SBX Cars and other public auction houses, plus the live inventory of the dealers on our dealer leaderboard. Every market page shows the date its data was last updated.

Prices here are what the market cleared, not an appraisal of any one car. We don't sell cars, take listings, or rank anyone for money. Something wrong? Tell us and we'll fix it.

- carsoldfor, lowercase, always, even at the start of a sentence.
- carsoldfor.com when you mean the address.
Logo
One blue stroke that reads two ways: a fastback's roofline and a price line. The green dot at the end is the sale.
- Clear space: two dot-diameters on every side.
- Smallest size: 20px tall for the full logo, 16px for the mark alone.
- On white, use the light version. On a photo, keep the dark plate behind it.
- Don't recolour, stretch or redraw it, and don't attach a tagline to it.

Numbers
- Every price says what it is, how many sales and over what window: $306,000 median of 57 sales, last 12 months.
- Thousands separators: $306,000. Where space is tight: $306k, $1.86M.
- Estimates carry a tilde in front and are called the SoldFor Estimate: ~$10,000.
- Changes use a true minus: +24.1%, −8.4%. Ranges use an en dash: $178k–$950k.
Voice
- Plain words, short sentences. Say the number, then what it means.
- Name the trick: an ask is not a sale, and a buyer's premium is part of the price.
- Prices fall as plainly as they rise: "down 8.4%", never "crash".
- Never: best, #1, steal, must-see, investment-grade, exclamation marks, emoji or urgency.

Price API and embeds
Every car page has an Embed button: the page's price card as an image, linked to the page, for a website or a forum post. The card updates daily. Dealers in our top 500 get a Badge for your site button on their dealer page: their rank by enthusiast cars moved in the last 12 months.
For code there is one free endpoint, no key needed: GET https://carsoldfor.com/api/v1/price/<car>, where <car> is the part of a car page's address after /car/. Example: /api/v1/price/ferrari/f40. It returns the median sale price of the last 12 months with its low, high and number of sales, the median asking price of the same car for sale now, the date it was updated and the page link. Show each number with its count and window, and link to the page. Up to 20 requests every 10 seconds per address.
Most "deal" alerts match words in the ad. Ads say "rare" and "one owner" whether or not it is true. Ours compare the asking price with the SoldFor Estimate, which is built from what the same car has actually sold for. You get an alert only when the gap is large, and it shows the numbers behind it.
How it works
- Tell us the car and your top price. Any car we track, from a 1990 Miata to a 992 GT3.
- We check new listings every 30 minutes. Each one is matched to its market by year and model and valued against the SoldFor Estimate for that car.
- You hear about it only when it stands out. The alert shows the ask, the estimate, how many sales the estimate rests on, and what the ad says about the car.
What sends an alert
- 30% or more under the SoldFor Estimate, when at least three matching sales back the estimate.
- Strong signs in the ad: one owner, low miles, manual gearbox, all original, service records.
- Never: salvage or rebuilt titles, projects, true mileage unknown, no title, cars that don't run.
Why 30%
Our sold prices are mostly public auctions, and well-presented cars sell at auction. Of the first 284 private listings we checked, 21 had enough matching sales to value, and their median ask was 24% under the SoldFor Estimate. So 20% under is normal for a private sale. 30% under is unusual, and worth a phone call.
What alerts are not
- An asking price is not a sale. Listings we watch never enter the sold prices, charts or estimates on this site.
- A listing that disappears is not a sale. We never guess what it went for.
- An alert is not an inspection. A car 35% under its estimate can have a reason. Check it.
